The Booknook - How I started a bookclub

Oh to be part of a community or group where you get to rave about a common interest and have others share the same passion, be it love or hatred (for a book (character)) - what a delight!

I wanted to create a community where I was not only able to share my love for books, but also feel like I was part of something bigger. And thus, the idea of having a book club did not seem far off. When I initially posted about it on my Instagram, there were only 3 or 4 people interested in joining and even then I felt elated!

It just so happened that I stumbled upon https://www.leemos.de on a random day after they had liked one of my posts about wanted to start a club. Leemos is a website where you can host bookclubs for free and so the fate of my dream was sealed.

I was going to start a book club and call it

“The Booknook”

Although I could have easily just joined a club myself, I thought it was nice to have one that operated both on- and offline here in Graz, Austria. Once I set up the information about my club, it had quickly gained traction and now the club is FULL with 15/15 spots taken (including myself). We’re a group of people who read a wide variety of books ranging from romantasy, to queer books, to thrillers and more.

After having almost 10 books up for voting, our fist read was decided: Heartless Hunter by Kristen Ciccarelli.

I cannot wait to discuss this book online on Discord with the group and hope to read many more stories with all of members!

If you were looking for a sign to start a community about something you are passionate about, this is your sign. I know it can be especially scary if you start alone, but trust me, the joy is so much bigger when you get to do what you love with people who enjoy the activity just as much!

BE BOLD,
Soso
